Supplement Research Checklist
A pharmacist-curated checklist for evaluating supplement research claims. Know what to look for before you buy.
How to Use This Checklist
Before believing any supplement claim, run it through these checks:
Study Quality
- Is it a human study (not animal or in-vitro only)?
- Was it randomized and controlled?
- What was the sample size?
- Was it peer-reviewed and published?
Dosing
- Does the product contain the same dose used in research?
- Is the form/bioavailability comparable?
- What was the study duration?
Claims
- Does the claim match what was actually measured?
- Are there conflicting studies?
- Is the effect size clinically meaningful?
Red Flags
- “Proprietary blend” hiding actual doses
- Only citing their own funded studies
- Claims that seem too good to be true
- No third-party testing or certification
